I apparently have an affinity for turbocharged German cars. I say this because I am 18 years old and own two of the things.
One is silver and better in almost every measurable way, and the other is red and gets a good amount of attention from the JalOpponik community.
Today was the first time I drove the cars back to back, so what do you want to know? Any question is welcome and all will be answered.

The Merkur has only stranded me once in my two and a half years of ownership.
The Volkswagen has only stranded me once in my three months of ownership.

The GTI is faster, more refined, steers better, brakes better, and is all around just easier to not only drive, but drive quickly.
The Merkur sounds better, strangely has more space, and is enormously more rewarding to drive.
At the end of the day the GTI is the better car but the Merkur feels more special and less like just another car.

The Merkur no doubt about it. The GTI is currently bone stock. That’ll change eventually but for now the XR has it beat by a long way as far as noise is concerned.
